Our mission is to provide orphans living in the Kechene and Kolfe orphanages with developmental opportunities now so they will be able to live healthy, productive lives when they age-out of the orphanages. Basic and quality of life improvements include nutritious food, medical care, improved living conditions and necessary supplies, plus hands-on training for their caregivers. Many of these children will never be adopted or are not available for adoption, so they will depend on occupational training at these orphanages in preparation for living on their own when they reach age 18. The support that Gladney provides for the two orphanages is $1,100/month or $13,200/year.
College & Vocational school scholarship program
Gladney provides scholarship support and tutoring for 70+ orphaned Ethiopian teens living in the Kechene and Kolfe orphanages to pass their national exam required for acceptance in a private college or vocational training, with tuition, transportation and books included. This scholarship program also serves those who do not score high enough on their national exams to continue their educations at the government college. Once accepted, these teens can continue to live in the orphanages with room and board provided as long as they are enrolled in college.
If they do not complete college or vocational training, their future opportunities for life on their own are very limited. Fortunately, Gladney’s tutorial and scholarship assistance is making a very positive impact for those preparing to take the national exam and for those who are accepted into college or vocational training. The cost per child is approximately $400 – 800 per year.
